Bedtime stories : orality, performance, purpose / Megan Richey Olsen, 2008

 Item — Box: 361, Folder: 16
Identifier: FA 1 Item 4473

Scope and Contents note

This project is a collection of bedtime stories as told by the collector's father. The analysis discusses the folklore of narratives and their appeal for children, noting particularly their qualities as an oral performance, and the involvement of the listener in the telling of the story. For these stories, the collector claims that the stories taught lessons about the world and how it functions. Stories collected include the following stories: Sheba the Timber Wolf, The Girl and her Horse, Crossing the Stinkpond, Ricky the Red Fox, Argyle the Detective, Ernie the Ant, Befriending the Beavers, The Eagle and the Seagull, The Girl Under a Rock, and several others, 15 stories in total. Collected by megan Richey Olsen, Dr. Thursby's ENGL 391 class, Fall 2008.
