Scope and Contents note
This project is a collection of birthday traditions at restaurants. The analysis discusses how birthdays are a great source of folklore, falling into the three categories of folklore: verbal, material, and customary. Claims that eating at a restaurant for a birthday has become a tradition for many individuals. Topics include the following: Dining Out, Dynamism through Diversity and Individuality, Conservatism: Keeping Custom, and Valuing the Individual. Items collected cover traditions of restaurant servers, going to a different restaurant each birthday, eating with friends and family, and other stories about eating at restaurants for birthdays. Collected by Sarah Walker, Dr. Rudy's ENGL 392 class, Winter 2008.
