The way to a man's memory is through his stomach : the correlation between men, stories of pain and their comfort food / Rebecca Wood, 2009
Scope and Contents note
This project is a collection of personal narratives about food and memory, discussing the correlation between men, stories of pain, and their comfort food. The analysis notes how certain foods have come to be associated with certain types of pain or illness. Also comments on the effects of sensory memory on recording information in the sensory system, or in this case, taste. Specifically notes that the male informants were able to easily associate memory with experiences with extreme pain. Items collected include Campbell's chicken soup making the informant think of past illnesses, cheesecake with an extreme acid burn, popsicles with being run over by a car, cheeseburgers with a wakeboarding accident, strawberry milk with a long boarding accident, and crackerjacks with sports injuries. Collected by Rebecca Wood, Dr. Rudy's ENGL 391 class, Spring 2009.
