Scope and Contents

Materials contain a transcribed interview of Clara Pyne regarding her work, who worked for the Orem Utah Ration Board (the Office of Price Administration Local War and Price Ration Office) as the Chief Clerk during World War II from 1943 to 1944. She talks about growing up in Orem, Utah, and having a difficult senior year because Pearl Harbor had been bombed and they had few school supplies. Recalls working to earn spending money, working on a farm, and working with German POWs from the nearby Prisoner camp. Talks about rationing and her job at the ration board. Also talks about traveling and living with her husband, Clifton, who was in the Air Force. Finally talks about settling down with Clifton at the end of the war. Also includes a 12-page article titled "Orem City Rationing and Price Control during World War II," which discusses rationing in Utah County and includes photocopied pictures and news articles on the topic. Dated 1942-1947 and May 11, 2004.
