The missionaries and the mafia : "because we all believe in eternal families" / Heidi Hanson, 2008

 Item — Box: 348, Folder: 3
Identifier: FA 1 Item 4235

Scope and Contents note

A collection of missionary narratives about encounters with members of organized crime. The stories tend to follow the pattern of a missionary impressing a leader of the mafia or other organized crime groups, and the leader in turn offering protection and aid to the missionaries. The story types are conversion stories, protection stories, stalking stories, and survival stories. They serve as a release valve for those that wish something interesting would happen to them, and as a warning against taking the missionaries' status in the ruling powers of their mission for granted. Mission stories collected were from Italy, Russia, Mexico, Chile, and Brazil. Collected by Heidi Hanson, Dr. Eric Eliason's ENGL 391 class, Winter 2008.
