Materials contain a memoir written in 2002 by John Daniel Monson about his military service in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Discusses training in Hawaii, serving on the U.S.S. Roger B. Taney in the Pacific, Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Atlantic. Describes attacks from Japanese and German planes. Also contains a photograph of Monson in 1943, a history of the U.S.S. Taney, and a photocopy of Monson's honorable discharge certificate in 1945. Dated 1943-1945, 2002.
