Folklore of survival / Chad Powell, 2006
Scope and Contents note
Powell discusses how survival stories and traditions passed down through instructors and individuals at the mountain men rendezvous are folklore, and how these stories relate to students at Brigham Young University through their knowledge of deity and what their duty here on earth is. Powell claims that these survival stories become a reinforcement function for the religious aims of Brigham Young University. He then goes on to explain how survival experiences can also serve social control and release valve functions. A DVD accompanies this project. Created by Chad Powell when he enrolled in Eric Eliason's English 391 class in winter 2006.
