Scope and Contents note
Materials contain a short desription of Norman Ray Barker's experience in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Barker also included a poem about Iwo Jima that was written by a ship mate, photocopied photographs, and a history of the ship on which he served, the U.S.S. Bladen. Memoir describes being shipped out on the Iwo Jima campaign and watching the flag being raised on Mount Suribachi, and his experiences being involved in the Okinawa campaign in April. Dated 1944-1945, approximately 2006.
