Materials contain a trancribed interview with Ryan A. Sim regarding his service in the U.S. Navy Reserves during the Gulf War from February to June 1994 and the Iraq War from 2003 to 2004. Interview was conducted as part of the Nurses at War Project. Talks about his decision to enlist in the Navy Reserves and the difficulty of being away from his wife. Discusses his deployment to Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom in April 2003 and the good that he did in Iraq rebuilding schools, towns, and restoring power. Recalls the friendliness of the Iraqis and how frustrated he was that he couldn't treat injured civilians. Talks about Iraqi protestors who were paid to protest. Concludes with the understanding that mistakes are made in the military, but it is difficult to blame anyone. Dated February 1, 2005.
