Scope and Contents note
Materials contain papers of Gladys Madsen regarding her service as a nurse in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-1946 and in the Vietnam War from 1955-1974. Contains a memoir in which she talks about becoming a nurse, enlisting in the U.S. Navy, serving in California, and being released from and returning to active duty prior to the Vietnam War. Briefly discusses her various promotions and retirement in 1973. Also contains a biography of Madsen and two photographs of Madsen. Materials were collected as part of the Nurses at War Project. Dated January 29, 1974, June 19, 2003.
