The subculture of hip hop graffiti artists / by David Hawkins, 2005
Scope and Contents note
Hawkins describes and explains the motivations behind and visual expressions of modern graffiti artists. He stresses that the illegality of graffiti has created a very secretive underground community with its own language and codes of conduct. He concludes his description of this community with a list of common graffiti terms and an essay on the merits of liberative -- politically outspoken and libertarian -- graffiti. Created by David Hawkins when he was enrolled in Eric Eliason's English 391 course in Winter 2005.
