Scope and Contents note

Contains the memoir of an anonymous lieutenant who served as a nurse in the U.S. Navy from 1992 to the April 2004 and during the Iraq War. Talks about setting up base camp in Kuwait and treating mostly sick patients, sport injuries, and other random accidents a few months before the war started. Also talks about the training and leadership that prepared them for war as well as the chaos of the first few days of fighting. Discusses the perceptions that Iraqis had of Hussein, Americans, and those who stood up against Hussein. Describes feelings about being home again, adapting to the new environment, and the impact of service in the military on perceptions of the war and nursing. Talks about the emotions and the physical and mental preparation involved with deployment. Also talks about the differences between the various branches of the military and the teamwork and bonding between them. Donated to the Nurses at War Project. Dated June 8, 2004.
