Materials contain the memoir of VaLaine Pack regarding his service in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War from 1957 to 1983. Memoir was collected as part of the Nurses at War Project. Talks about her decision to be a nurse, her schooling, and joining the Navy Enlisted Nursing Education Program in 1959. Talks about her transfer to Taiwan for a 15 month tour and discusses the differences between the Chinese and American nurses. Also talks about her responsibilities as head of the OR tech school in Philadelphia, preparing her students to go to Vietnam. Details her assignments to Hong Kong and Iwakuni, Osaka, and Hiroshima, Japan. Recounts her life after the war. Discusses her religious inactivity but acknowledges divine intervention in her life.
