Scope and Contents note

Contains a transcribed interview with James H. Burks regarding his service in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and the Gulf War from October 1972 to March 1993. Donated to the Nurses at War Project. Talks about his parents. Describes his decision to be a medic, his training, the work that he did on injured soldiers from Vietnam, and the medical facilities he worked in. Talks about his responsibilities as a medic driving ambulances and his training as a helicopter mechanic. Tells of his trip with Vice President Bush up the Snake River in Idaho and other interesting responsibilities he had working with NATO. Talks about the end of his career with helicopters after he got married and moving back to Washington to be an aviator for 141s. Also talks about flights to Vietnam, Russia, Bangladesh, Japan, Spain, and Kuwait. Discusses how important his wife was in supporting him and talks about his retirement and new responsibilities working with C5 training systems in Utah. Dated January 23, 2004.
