Scope and Contents
Donated to the Nurses at War Project. Contains a memoir of Elizabeth Roach relating to her service in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War from 1969-1977. Talks about enrolling at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing in order to train to be a nurse to pay for her education. Talks about her fears and insecurities at 20 as she faced the possibility of being sent to Vietnam and then more insecurities as she was asked to work in the coronary care unit (CCU). Discusses her agitation as she worked on several abortions until she spoke with her priest and was transferred to the ICU. Talks about how sad she was to leave the military and the effects that that experience had on her spiritually. Also talks about her work after the war. Dated May 22, 2003.
