Blondes, the scourge of common sense : replacement of racial and ethnic jokes by blondes / by Brian Joe Rice, 2001
Scope and Contents note
Identifies blond jokes as a replacement for racial, religious, or cultural jokes. Mentions variations of the same jokes where the protagonist is interchangeably blond or of a particular ethnic background. Explains that people tell jokes about outsiders because it makes what is different seem less threatening. Identifies jokes in general as a means of establishing a sense of superiority. Suggests that blond jokes are not offensive because no one believes themselves to be a part of that group. Includes a collection of ethnic and blonde jokes. Created by Brian Joe Rice while he was enrolled in Jill Terry Rudy's English 392 class during Fall Semester 2001.
