Materials contain a memoir of Glen J. Garr detailing his service during World War II as a shipfitter in the U.S. Navy CB 71st Battalion, 1st Platoon. Gives a history of personal and national events leading up to World War II. He discusses working on a bridge on Guadalcanal and building an airstrip—Torikina Fighter Strip—in a swamp while being bombed and attacked by Japanese aircraft. Describes Japanese artillery, sniper and air attacks while constructing airfields. Describes service and conditions in Admiralty Islands. Describes Kamikaze attacks and ground battles in the south of "bloody Okinawa." Also includes four photographs (1943-1945). Dated 1942-1945, 1995.
