Scope and Contents note

Materials contain papers relating to Ovid Glenn Bennett's service in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Sheldon. Contains a 2004 interview that describes his military experiences repairing radio and electronic equipment for several ships, abandoning his torpedoed ship, and sunsequent rescue. Talks about other voyages in the Navy after the war, and how everywhere people were fond of American military. Also contains a handwritten account (circa 1969) of Bennett’s service in the Navy. Discusses his training, travels, Survivor's Leave, and his time in Japan, and eventual return home. Dated March 25, 2004.
