Materials contain papers relating to Robert E. Bartlett, Jr.'s service in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radarman aboard the U.S.S. Pochard. Discusses his participation in the invasion of the Gilbert Islands and his experiences in the Marshall Islands (1943-1944). He relates his role as part of a crew that did minesweeping around Kerama Ratta Atoll, Tokyo Bay, and other locations in enemy territory. Bartlett, Jr. recounts watching the ceremony of Japan's surrender using his ship's binoculars (1945). Also contains a poem he wrote, numerous copied photographs, and his certificate of discharge. Dated 1943-1946 and approximately 2000.
