Scope and Contents

Contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, tour agreements, dates, and itineraries, photos, maps, tour notes, resource lists, memos and meeting minutes, programs, music, show notes, performance lineups, class competency requirements, costume ideas, articles on dance, service awards, posters, and certificates for the Young Ambassadors, World of Dance, Homecoming Spectacular, and Orchesis. Topics include tour schedules for the Young Ambassadors for their performances in regions including Eastern Europe and the Southern United States, memos concerning the Young Ambassadors from BYU faculty including former BYU President Jeffrey R. Holland, lyrics and sheet music for the Young Ambassadors, a description of the various forms of dances for the Young Ambassador's "World of Dance" program, etc. Dated 1970-1984.

Biographical History

From the Collection:

Dee Winterton (1935-1984) was a dance professor in Utah.

Dee R Winterton was born in Midvale, Utah, in 1935. As a young man, he worked closely with his father on the family cattle ranch, raising prize-winning steers. After completing college, Winterton toured with the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, and participated in residencies in association with the National Endowment for the Arts' Artists-in-Schools Program.

As a professor in the Dance Department at Brigham Young University, Winterton worked closely with the The Dancers' Company, Lamanite Generation, the Young Ambassadors' touring group, and musical theater productions. He also served as the artistic director for revues at Sundance, Utah for several years. He and his wife, Maureen, were the parents of four sons, Brad, Greg, Rolph, and Jay Dee. Dee was killed in an automobile accident on October 15, 1984.
