Materials contain a story written by Shirley Howard about Vernon Thompson and Leon E. Paice. She discusses Paice's service in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Tells the story of Vern Thompson and his service in the U.S. Air Force. Talks about Leon’s draft into the Marines, training in San Diego, and his assignment in Guadalcanal and then Guam. Discusses the fighting that took place in Guam, sailing to Okinawa, and the fighting that took place there. Describes the injury he received from a mortar, the recovery process which eventually sent him back to the U.S., and meeting his wife and raising his family in Beaver, Utah. Also includes Vern’s story about meeting Leon in the hospital, giving him a blessing, and witnessing the miraculous over-night recovery that took place. Also gives facts about the casualties at Okinawa. Dated 1994.
