General note

Caption on item: "Other: Recycling & Scrap – Pitts, PA," and "This truck load of scrap steel cans represents about 20,000 of the 70 billion cans used annually in American households. These are being dumped in a scrap dealer's yard after being loaded at one of the steel industry’s can collection centers. The cans will be compacted by the scrap dealer before shipment to a steel mill for recycling into the steelmaking operation. Steel industry research has proven that both tin-coated and tin-free steel cans, used in limited quantities in each furnace charge, can be recycled successfully."
