Scope and Contents

Materials contain a transcript of a film interview of Mark K. Carroll regarding his service in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II. Relates several near-death experiences. Describes being moved last- minute off of a ship that ended up being sunk by a torpedo. Also describes narrowly escaping machine gun fire, being within a foot of his sergeant when he was shot, and being ill with malaria. Discusses his feelings about the Japanese during the conflict, and later while he was stationed in Japan after the conflict was over. Briefly describes the ruin caused by the Atomic bomb. Dated March 2001.
