Scope and Contents note

Material contains papers of Leebert Worth McFarland regarding his service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943-1945. Contains letters written from 1989 to 2006 by McFarland, his wife, and former crew members. Includes a letter explaining the parole of American prisoners in Switzerland in 1944. Contains an account written in 1990 by McFarland entitled "Walk, Don't Run" about his experiences during his six month internment in Switzerland. Describes living in Wauwil punishment camp in 1944. Also describes his earlier stay in Adelboden prison camp until his attempted escape in October 1944. Recounts a later escape into France through the underground. Includes part of transcribed telephone calls between McFarland and his friend Richard Pettit discussing McFarland's escape. Dated after 1942.
