Scope and Contents note
Materials contain papers relating to Edgar Vance Calder regarding his service in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944-1946. Contains three copies of a 2002 interview, in which Calder talks about serving a mission before joining the Army for the last two years of the war. Talks about training and sailing to France, fighting the Germans, and then befriending the Germans at the end of the war. Also talks about organizing Latter-Day Saint meetings, returning home at the end of the war, maintaining his standards during the war, and the respect he received. Also contains a 13 page personal history in which he writes more about his experiences in the Army with the other men, training, the food he ate, learning to drive 6X6 trucks, crossing the Atlantic, fighting the Germans in France, visiting prisoner-of-war camps, and the end of the war. Also contains a letter to the soldiers of the 66th Infantry Division from the Major General of the U.S. Army (1945). Dated 2002.
