Scope and Contents note
Materials contain a short memoir detailing George Rolland Bascom's service in the U.S. Army during World War II. Described his time as a guard over German prisoners-of-war, and his interaction with native families in Luxembourg during the German Ardennes offensive. Also contains an excerpt from his journal outlining his childhood, education, induction in the National Guard, basic training, stateside duties following the attack on Pearl Harbor, advanced training in Fort Lewis, Washington, and his transfer to Europe. Also recounts how he met his wife, their courtship, her conversion to the Latter-Day Saint faith, and their marriage. Dated before 2001.
