Note on verso: "Like a pageant from the middle ages is this procession of armed peasants and civilians down the main street of Xi'an, during a great Armed Demonstration of the Northwest against Japanese Imperialism. Almost the entire population of the city witnessed this spectacle. Many peasants came into Xi'an from the country with their spears and pikes."

"Xi'an" written as "Sian" and "Sianfu."
