Magnum c-42 note: "Liu Ting's orderly, one of the best in Yenan, very bright and promising. Liu Ting was the communist liaison man in Sian in the fall of 1936 when I went there; he refused to let me join Edgar Snow in the Red areas. He spoke good English. Such boys may not be."
