Note on verso: "Carl/U.S. Military observer treks 1500 miles across Northern China. A camera report on the trip of Captain E.F. Carlson, who covered the large area between Sian and Chengchow, mostly on foot and hoeseback. At Yenan (North Shensi) there is an academy where men and women are trained to become leaders inteh movement to organize the people of China for resistance. Our photo shows part of the women students."
