Scope and Contents
Autograph letter signed, from Thomas L. Kane, Littlestown, PA, to Captain Thomas H. Elliott, he encloses two of the “special reports” of the commanders of regiments of his brigade (not there), report of the involvement of Thomas L. Kane's brigade in the Battle of Gettysburg ( 2-4 July 1863), repulsed Confederate attack under Johnson, Rhodes, and Stuart, with losses of 23 killed, 73 wounded, and 20 missing, “Every officer and man of my command did his duty, and . . . [I witnessed] numerous examples of heroism,” listing of soldiers killed from Thomas L. Kane’s command, 1 p., folded, written on 4 sides, 6 July 1863.
