Abraham H. Cannon diary volume 16, 1892 January-December
Scope and Contents
Abraham begins to use a typewriter to record in his journal. He writes about the affairs, meetings, and sermons of the Church, along with his family and work life. He writes about the plays that he views at the theatre with his wives and other family members. The efforts to confirm statehood for Utah keep failing because of the polygamy issue. Some Church members persuade the general membership to join the Republican party to keep parties balanced in Utah and to get leverage so that voting rights could be restored to the Saints. Abraham receives a patriarchal blessing and copies the transcript into this volume. He also writes the blessing given to his son Claude. Abraham's brother David dies while serving in the Swiss and German mission. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles discusses the organization of Young University. They also discuss the progress of the Salt Lake City Temple. Abraham attends the placing of the capstone a year before the temple will be dedicated. He records the individual opinions of each of the brethren shared in important meetings. Dated 1892 January to December.
