Letter from John M. Bernhisel, Washington, to Thomas L. Kane, containing news about Utah's application for a government and Kane's lack of confidence in Babbit "to manage the business at hand". Discussing a rumor that President Millard Fillmore will veto any bill that is beneficial to the Mormons. The letter also mentions that Senator Truman Smith is trying to help them. Dated January 17, 1850
