Scope and Contents
Journal written by Elizabeth Wood Kane containing letters; accounts of her husband's financial and business difficulties while working for the McKean & Elk Co.; worries about her family's uncertain future; the Presidential race and her husband's support of Ulysses S. Grant; her husband's political career, his visits to Washington D.C., and his efforts to build railroads; her ability as a physician; and Robert Patterson Kane's drinking problem. Journal entries date from February 20, 1868, to November 18, 1870.
