Brigham Young letter to James K. Polk, 1846 September 7
Scope and Contents
Typescript of letter from Young (Willard Richards clerk) to President Polk, relates proceedings of council between Mormons and Omaha chiefs in which they granted the Mormons permission to stay on their land in exchange for instruction in agriculture and "mechanic arts," seeks a trade license and the President's permission to pursue such a program, dated September 7, 1846.
