Elizabeth Wood Kane journal, 1857-1858
Scope and Contents
Materials include one of Elizabeth Wood Kane's journals from the years 1857 to 1858. It contains photographs and her notes on photography, mentions various family vacations (mainly to Elk County, Pennsylvania), speaks of books she is reading and her desire to become a better mother and housekeeper. In the journal, she expresses her joy that her husband, Thomas L. Kane, has become a Christian. There is also information about her husband's travels and interactions with Mormons, the bad treatment Mormons were receiving at the time, and his desire to help them. There are also letters she either transcribed or placed into the journal, many of which are from Thomas L. Kane. Dated June 29, 1857 through August 8, 1858.
