Biographical History

Robert W. Thompson was born in Myrtle Point, Oregon and grew up in Fruita, Colorado. He joined the navy shortly after graduating high school. He traveled around the world on the USS Independence as an engineman. Using prior drafting knowledge, he redesigned parts of his ship and the blueprints were sent to Washington D.C. to be used in new ship designs. While on assignment in Scotland, he married a Scottish girl. They returned to the United States and had a daughter. He taught at engineman school for a short time and then returned to Colorado to work in engine repair.
