General
Note on verso: "25-E. Seven thousand miles with shrapnel in his spine is the heroic achievement of this revolutionary intellectual, Wang Chis-hsien. A member of the Red Army politifal department, Wang is a university graduate, speaks English and Russian, and is now a member of the Communist Central Committee. During the Kuomintang's Fourth Campaign against the Soviet base in South China, Wang was struck by a splinter from enemy shells, the steel lodging in his spine, making him a semi-invalid. Red Army surgeons were unable to remove it--but Wang marched with the main forces when they evacuated Kiangsi, surviving the long trek of more than 7,000 miles to the new Red base in the Northwest. Ho is now about thirty-two years of age. This is the only picture of him available. Copy of original in Soviet districts, by Edgar Snow--1936."
