Note on verso: "363-A. Po Ku, at 30/commissar of Foreign Affairs of Central Soviet Government of China, and one of the delegates to the Nanking Government for the Soviets. Born in a magistrate's family in Chekiang in 1907; joined Communists Party in October, 1925. Went to Moscow to study in 1926 at at Sun Yat-Sen University there, returning in 1930. Worked then in Shanghai trade unions, and opposed Li Li-san's Leftists policy, until 1932. In 1932 went to Kiangsi Soviets. Considered one of the most brilliant Marxist theorecitians in China, he looks like a typical Chinese intellectual with his heavy-lensed spectacles. Photo by Nym Wales, 1937."
