Note on verso: "364. BOYS AND GIRLS OF THE CHINESE RED THEATRE practicing a dance in the courtyard of their dormitories at the Dramatics' Club. They are very fond of all kinds of modern stage-dancing, and on this day I found them practicing tap-dancing on the stone-floor of the compound, which sounded like a thunder-storm from the gate. (x) is Liu Chih, the leading boy-actor of the Dramatics' Club, a bankers' son who ran away from his family to join the Red Army. Photo by Nym Wales, Yen-an, 1937."
