General
Note on verso: "479. Red Girl-Cadets of the 'Military and Political Academy' at Yen-an. Some of the 41 girl students enrolled at the Academy shown leaving a lecture room. They wear boying bobs, regulatoin uniforms and live a life under military discipline for the most part. The girls of China are noted as being on the whole more 'masculine' than the men--more courageous, determined and competent in many ways. They are demanding 'the new freedom' and are out to fight for it, hence they tend to become Communists in China rather than demanding any half-way treasures. Photo by Nym Wales, August 1937--at Yenan."
