Kane to Elizabeth Dennistoun Wood Kane, “I deserved defeat [in the election] for my vindictiveness to Biddle,” he got all the votes from men from Cameron, McKean, and Elk counties and majority of officers, he could be a professor of history and political economy, his first recruit, “It was a great mistake, my running, so as to embitter the men as well as the officers against me,” some red marks and underlining, 1 p., folded, written on 4 sides, 23-24 January 1862.
