Biographical History
Oliver Wolcott Jr. (1760-1833) was an American politician who served as the 2nd Secretary of the Treasury and the 24th Governor of Connecticut.
Oliver Wolcott Jr. was born in 1760 in Litchfield, Connecticut to parents Oliver Wolcott Sr. and Laura Collins Wolcott. He graduated from Yale University in law and was given permission to practice as a lawyer in 1781.
President George Washington appointed Wolcott to be Secretary of the Treasury in 1795. He resigned from the position in 1800 and was later appointed as a federal judge on the United States circuit court. After his service on a national level, Wolcott ran for governor of Connecticut and won in 1817. He served in the position for 10 years and later died in 1833.
