Administrative History

Religious Instruction was established in 1973 as part of a reorganization of the College of Religious Instruction. Its instructors taught courses in ancient scripture and the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was renamed Religious Education in 1983. The College of Religious Instruction was established in 1959 in a reorganization of the Division of Religion. The college provided instruction in ancient scripture and the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and granted master's and doctoral degrees in Mormon religious studies. The college was reorganized, losing its college status, in 1973.
