Administrative History

For over 100 years, the department was known under a variety of titles, all of which included the term physical education in the name. As of August 31, 2004, the department begins operating under a new title- Department of Exercise Sciences. The department is committed to helping people of all ages to develop active and healthy lifestyles. The new name reflects several broad areas of study: physical education teaching/coaching, fitness & wellness, athletic training, exercise physiology, functional human anatomy, biomechanics, motor learning, orthopedic impairments and others. The common theme among all these areas of study is the physical well being of people.
