Biographical History

Cheryl Brown (1945- ) was an associate academic vice president at Brigham Young University.

Cheryl Brown was born to Althea Lund and John Middleton Brown, the ninth of ten children. She attended Utah State University and graduated with a degree in American Studies. In 1968, she was called to serve a mission in Chile for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Following her mission, Cheryl Brown returned to Utah State University to get her MA in English. She taught English as a Second Langauge at USU and later at BYU, where she earned another MA in Teaching English as a Second Laguage. She earned a Ph.D. from UCLA in 1983 in applied liguistics. Cheryl Brown joined the BYU faculty in 1975, was awarded the Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Teaching Award in 1986, and became Associate Academic Vice President over International, Distance, and Continuing Education in 1996. She got married and left her work at the University in 1999.
