From the Collection:

The Department of Agronomy & Horticulture is part of the College of Biology & Agriculture. It was created in 1967 when the Department of Agronomy & the Department of Horticulture were merged to strengthen both programs. The new department was part of the College of Biological & Agricultural Science that had been created in 1954. Prior to that, both departments had been members of the College of Applied Sciences. An important part of the Department of Agronomy & Horticulture is the University farm located in Spanish Fork, Utah.

W. Derby Laws was a professor of Agronomy at Brigham Young University from 1960 until 1976. He served as chairman of the Department of Agronomy from 1965-66. He taught soil chemistry and soil physics.

Raymond B. Farnsworth was a professor of Agronomy at Brigham Young University from 1946 until 1980. He served two years as the dean of the College of Biological and Agricultural Science and was chairman of the Department of Agronomy for fourteen years. He was widely know for his research on nitrogen fixation by non-leguminous plants.
