Administrative History

The Church Educational System (est. 1970) is an educational programs for students and adults in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Church Educational System (CES) was formed in 1970 in a reorganization of the earlier Unified Church School System. The system included primary and secondary educational institutions operated by the Church, including seminaries and institutes of religion. The system is administered by the Commissioner of Church Education, and operates under the direction of the Board of Education of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Commissioners of Church Education have included Neal A. Maxwell (1970-1976), Jeffrey R. Holland (1976-1980), Henry B. Eyring (1980-1986), J. Elliot Cameron (1986-1989), Henry B. Eyring (1992-2004), W. Rolfe Kerr (2005-2008), and Paul V. Johnson (2008- ).
