Administrative History

From the Collection:

The Office of Research and Creative Activities (1994- ) is an administrative unit at Brigham Young University.

The Office of Research and Creative Activities (ORCA), previously known as the Office of Research and Creative Work, took its current name in 1994. The office seeks to support students, staff, faculty, and the university administration in their efforts to encourage and support research, creative activities, and other expressions of academic scholarship. This includes providing grants to help undergraduate students work with faculty in a one-on-one setting to conduct research, field studies, or create unique projects in their discipline. The office also houses a number of research compliance committees, including the institutional review board.

The office operates under a director, who reports directly to the university administration. Directors have included Gary Hooper (1994-1996), Brent Webb (1996-1999), and Gary Reynolds (1999- ).
