Biographical History

H. Julene Butler (1948- ) served as the University Librarian for BYU’s Harold B. Library from 2009-2012.

H. Julene Butler received a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in library science from Brigham Young University and received a doctorate in Communication, Information, and Library Science from Rutgers University.

Julene joined the BYU library faculty in 1971 as a French language cataloguer, and has since served as General Reference Department Chair, Library Use Instruction Coordinator, Assistant University Librarian for Public Services, and Associate University Librarian.

Julene was a member of several consortia including the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA), Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and has served in leadership positions with ARL’s Research Libraries Leadership Fellows, the Utah Academic Library Consortium, and the Utah Library Association.
