The Gentle Madness of Book Collection Conference (2003) was a book collecting conference held at Brigham Young University.

The Gentle Madness of Book Collecting Conference was a two-day conference on rare books and book collecting at Brigham Young University. Held in 2003, the conference was renamed the following year as the A. Dean Larsen Book Collecting Conference.

Administrative History

The A. Dean Larsen Book Collecting Conference (2003-) is a two-day conference on rare books and book collecting at Brigham Young University.

Following the 2003 conference, the Gentle Madness of Book Collecting Conference was renamed the A. Dean Larsen Book Collecting Conference. The conference is held annually and is open to book collectors and book lovers alike. Each conference features a collection as a theme, a keynote speaker, and various seminars and workshops.

Administrative History

The L. Tom Perry Special Collections (1999-) is a special collections library and archive at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

With the completion of new facilities in 1999, the Department of Special Collections & Manuscripts was renamed the L. Tom Perry Special Collections Library. Aline and L. Sam Skaggs, through their ALSAM Foundation, had made a generous financial donation to the new library and requested that the Special Collections be named after L. Tom Perry, an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The department is responsible for collecting, preserving, and making available rare books, historical manuscripts, and university records. Department chairs have included Scott Duvall (1999-2002), P. Bradford Westwood (2002-2009), and Russ Taylor (2009- ).

Custodial History

Transferred to the University Archives from the L. Tom Perry Special Collections in installments between 2003 and 2015. Materials from 2014, 2016, and 2019 were found in the stacks in 2021.
